In June 2006, I attended the following workshop at Leeds University: 'Tools for e-learning: wikis, blogs and chatrooms' (run by Melissa Highton and Jane O'Neill).
The session provided hands-on opportunity to use, and experiment with, various free e-learning tools which have been developed in-house by at Leeds and can be used to enhance e-learning content. It looked specifically at some wiki, blog and chatrooms tools which can be used for student collaborative working.
Following the session I looked into the use of blogging both for my own research purposes and for teaching. The results of getting my students critically engaged in blogging can be found on the wiki site I established, www.creativeaudiences.com. However in preparation for using blogging in teaching I felt it only right to also experiment with blogging for myself. The result has been the creation of a 'research' blog. I am still working out the true import and purpose of this site, but certainly it has been a way of starting to understand the nature of blogs and what they can offer.
